16/04/08: Stella Street

Every now and then us Beep Seals end up in a van for several hours with only our wit to entertain us.
"Well, you're knacked then" I hear you cry, sarcastically and yet; we manage it somehow.
Mostly it's by listening to Phil do impressions of well known celebs etc. and sometimes he does little sketches from Stella Street.
Which made me start looking for bits of it on't'web and I found a particularly good "60's Special" I hadn't seen before.
Here it is...

One of my favorite phone pranksters hails from suburban Denver, a locale where I myself resided during the height of my less-illustrious/skillful phone-pranking career (although there was one time I might have convinced someone to drive out to the airport to pick up their cousin that they didn't really remember).

Anyway, the levels of absurdity that LPC takes his calls to and the amazing way he gets on his victims' nerves is really impressive. Something about his bizarre taunts and his use of electronic voice manipulators, feedback and reverb devices drives people up the wall. At the same time, he also has an uncanny ability to keep people on the phone despite their increasing levels of ire and irritation. This, as everyone knows, is the true measure of the pranker's worth.

14/03/07: Cold Prankin'

Ran across a batch of prank calls I forgot I had. Hope these provide some laughs if not a guffaw or two.

Black Metal Band
Not sure what the origin of this call is, but it's pretty funny. Good idea: pranking people who post band member wanted ads.

7-11 Part 1
7-11 Part 2
These never fail to tickle me. Guy calls completely gullible 7-11 employee and makes him perform a variety of foolish activities that most likely end in injury. Then he calls back again some time later.

Wendy's
Similar to the above, guy calls completely gullible Wendy's employee and makes him perform a variety of foolish activities that most likely end in injury. To equipment, at least.

This week I've mainly been listening to a bunch of Stereolaffs comedy CDs Tom Davies burned for me, compiling the funniest skits from The Best Show On WFMU.

Nietzsche collides with Family Circus

Family Circus
No one lies so boldly as the man who is indignant.

Not to be mistaken with the HP Lovecraft rewritings of the same comic.

For those unfamiliar, Family Circus is one of the longest running syndicated cartoons in US history. It's weighty "moral" implications makes it one of the most Holy of them all, and the most parodied.

Here's a link to some recent Family Circus comics, as well as links to every sindicated cartoon put forth by King Features . Enjoy!

Was anyone aware that Mike Judge had a new film out. Apparantly it didn't test well so Fox sat on it for a year and then only gave it a brief local release in a select few US cities (not including NY!) without any ad's, posters, trailers or media screenings! Sound familar, it must do to Mike Judge who had the exact same thing happen with Office Space. The premise is Luke Wilsons character is frozen until 2505 and when he wakes up society has been dumbed down so much by mass consumerism he is the most intelligent man alive by far.

If you don't mind some spoilers the full plot is up on wikipedia

The DVD just got a US release so I have a copy winging it's way to me now. Anyone fancy coming round for a movie night when it arrives get in touch!

Heather introduced me to Tracy Morgan through his Saturday Night Live DVD. I'm pretty sure he's got to be one of the most underrated SNL comedians. Anyway here's a stand up clip from youtube for you all to check out.

09/11/06: Patton Oswalt

Looking for a way to bring cutting-edge comedy to a different audience, Oswalt put together the Comedians of Comedy tour in 2004, using indie rock venues instead of traditional (and expensive) comedy clubs. The tour featured Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis, Brian Posehn, and Maria Bamford. The fall 2004 tour was documented in a 2005 film of the same name; it was followed by a six-episode Comedy Central series based on the summer 2005 tour. This tour featured special guest appearances from comedians such as Blaine Capatch, Bobby Tisdale and Todd Barry. Subsequent incarnations of the tour have included Eugene Mirman and Morgan Murphy.

Here's his latest 2 mini cds for your enjoyment.
